Year 1  

Dear Parents/Carers 

We hope that you all got to enjoy the warm  sunshine during half term and that the children are feeling refreshed and ready for another busy term in Year 1!

We are looking forward to another busy term with lots of learning.. In English we will start by looking at the book 'Little Red Reading Hood' by Lucy Rowland and we will be writing our own ending to the traditional tale. Then we will be looking at the book 'Under the Ocean' by Anouck Boisrobert and we will be writing our own Non - Chronological Reports. Finally we will learn the story 'The Red Hen'  and we will become oral storytellers using picture cues to retell stories aloud. 

In maths we will focus on learning numbers to 100. We will learn to find one more and one less, partition numbers and order numbers. Later in the term we will learn about money. We will learn to recognise coins and count quantities of money. Finally we will be learning to tell the time to the hour and half hour.

This half term, our focus school value will be "Respect'. 

 

Show and Tell 

In Year 1 the children will be taking part in 'Show and Tell' sessions in Mulberry class this will take place on Monday afternoon and is Cedar class on Thursday afternoons. Children will be encouraged to share something of interest with the rest of the class. They will then be encouraged to ask and answer questions. Look out for the timetable 

Secret Reader 

On Tuesdays, Cedar class will be starting 'Secret Reader' and Mulberry class will be on Thursday. This is your opportunity to read a story to the class. If you are interested then please sign up outside your classroom or speak to your class rep! 

 

Please can you also kindly ensure your child has their reading record in their book bag every day.
