Cromer Road Primary School

Gold Healthy Schools Award

The Mayor’s Healthy Schools London (HSL) and Healthy Early Years London (HEYL) Gold Awards recognise educational settings that have sustained, evaluated, and embedded long-term improvements in child health, including healthy eating, physical activity, and well-being. Gold is the highest level, awarded after demonstrating measurable impact from Silver-level initiatives.

Healthy eating in schools is achieved through a "whole-school approach," combining mandatory nutritional food standards, such as daily fruit, vegetables, and protein, with education on healthy habits. Schools implement this by enhancing the dining environment, creating school gardens, and embedding nutrition education into the curriculum.

At Cromer Road, we are very proud to have been accredited as a Gold Healthy Eating School.  Cromer Road’s journey toward the Gold Healthy Schools award began in December 2023 first achieving the Bronze status, Silver and now the Gold. In achieving the Gold Award we focused on improving healthy eating across the school day; including increasing salad and vegetable consumption at lunchtimes and improving KS2 snacks. We also aimed to specially focus on:

  • Support an increase in healthy eating patterns and portion management
  • Building pupils’ confidence to choose healthier food options
  • Enhancing school food & drink provision
  • Increasing access to healthy and nutritious food and drink across the school day

We are incredibly proud of the positive strides we have made in promoting health wellbeing across our school community. Through a dedicated focus on shifting mindsets around healthy living, we have empowered both pupils and parents to make more informed, nourishing choices. Listening to the voice of our children has been central to this journey - their insights have helped shape meaningful changes that truly resonate with their needs and aspirations. We will ensure healthy eating remains a priority through ongoing monitoring, pupil education and whole-school initiatives.
