Cromer Road Primary School

Year 1

Dear Parents/Carers

Happy New Year!

All of the Year 1 children have settled back into the routines of year 1 really smoothly this week. They have shown great resilience and motivation which has been reflected in their learning.

The Year 1 team are really excited to get started with all of the wonderful learning that will take place this half term. We will be very busy.  In English we will be looking at two very exciting books, 'The Barnabus Project' and 'A Walk in London'.  We will also look at a short film called 'El Caminate'! In maths we will focus on place value with numbers up to 20 and we will then focus our attention to addition and subtraction.

Below you will find information on what we will be covering this half term, including our projects. Please have a look at the Home Learning Grid to find this half term's homework. There is also a timetable of the phonics that the children will be learning this half term.

This half term, our focus school value will be 'Integrity'.

Show and Tell

In Year 1 the children will be taking part in 'Show and Tell' sessions in Mulberry class this will take place on Monday afternoon and is Cedar class on Thursday afternoons. Children will be encouraged to share something of interest with the rest of the class. They will then be encouraged to ask and answer questions. Look out for the timetable

Secret Reader

On Tuesdays, Cedar class will be starting 'Secret Reader' and Mulberry class will be on Thursday. This is your opportunity to read a story to the class. If you are interested then please sign up outside your classroom!

Please can you also kindly ensure your child has their reading record in their book bag every day.

Happy Learning!

Kind regards,

Mr Arnel and Ms McLeod
