Early Years Foundation Stage
At Cromer Road we value the development of children as individuals. We provide them with the skills, knowledge and understanding ready for them to join Year 1 and to continue their learning journey until they leave us in Year 6. The emotional development of our children is key as it leads to them being happy, motivated, resilient learners. We pride ourselves on building strong relationships with children and their families which ensures a smooth transition when they start with us at Cromer Road.
We are lucky to have a fantastic environment for our Reception classes, including a spacious outdoor area. Utilising both the indoor and outdoor classroom is a key feature of the Early Years curriculum. Children in Reception learn best through play and first hand experiences. Our staff plan engaging, practical learning opportunities that both meet the expectations of the Early Years curriculum and are rooted in children's interests. Our experienced members of staff support and guide the children as they learn through play, identifying next steps of learning through purposeful observations.
During their time in Reception we want children to develop their creativity and sense of imagination through being curious learners. Our stimulating environment and wide range of resources enables children to develop across the seven areas of learning that make up the Early Years curriculum:
- Communication and Language
- Personal Emotional Social Development
- Physical Development
- Literacy
- Maths
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
We support our children to form positive attitudes towards learning that stay with them throughout their time at Cromer Road and beyond. They show resilience, curiosity, independence and high levels of engagement in their learning which sets them up for success as they move through the school.
