Cromer Road crowned league champions after an outstanding season!

Cromer Road’s boys’ football team capped off a remarkable season by being crowned league champions, following an outstanding campaign built on consistency, resilience, and high-quality football throughout.

The journey to the final was impressive from the outset. Cromer Road progressed through the group stages with a perfect record, winning every match and conceding just two goals, showcasing both attacking quality and defensive solidity. This strong foundation set the tone for what would become a memorable run to the title.

In the semi-final, Cromer Road faced St Catherine’s, widely regarded as favourites for the competition and a side that had beaten us convincingly just the week before in the cup. However, the team showed incredible character and determination to respond. In a tightly contested match, Cromer Road delivered a superb all-round performance, securing a 1–0 victory, with Dongting Li scoring the decisive goal in the second half to send the team through to the final.

The stage was then set for the final at Compton Powerleague, where Cromer Road faced Christchurch School. The team started the match with confidence, playing some excellent, fluid passing football and controlling the early stages. The breakthrough came after 10 minutes in spectacular fashion, as Dongting Li struck an outstanding effort from around 20 yards into the top left corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.

Cromer Road continued to dominate possession and dictate play, going into half time with a deserved 1–0 lead.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Cromer continuing to play attractive, controlled football. Around 12 minutes into the half, Aidy Lakin-Gibb provided a well-weighted lay-off for Dongting Li, who calmly finished to make it 2–0 and put Cromer firmly in control of the match.

Just a few minutes later, the game was effectively sealed. A perfectly timed through ball from Dongting Li found Year 4’s Noah Brown, who showed great composure beyond his years to finish confidently with his left foot into the bottom corner, extending the lead to 3–0.

Christchurch managed to pull one goal back from a late corner in the final minute, but it proved to be no more than a consolation, as Cromer Road saw out the game to secure a 3–1 victory and lift the league trophy.

This triumph marks a historic moment for the school, as it is the first time Cromer Road’s name will be engraved on the league trophy. It is a fitting reward for a group of players who have shown commitment, teamwork, and resilience throughout the season, particularly in the way they bounced back from their only two defeats, both in cup competitions, to finish as league champions.

A fantastic achievement and a season to be incredibly proud of, congratulations to the Cromer Road boys’ football team.
